Stuff I Like

weirdboner:

YAY! You are my 40th follower. I just squealed out of happiness. Well, not really ‘cause I was eating a sandwich and afraid I might choke. Mostly I just flailed and chewed, but you should know I am very excited.

I won’t lie. I found you when John Green reblogged something you said. I just signed up for this and am actively looking for interesting people to follow. You say interesting things, and the picture of Olive saying she didn’t want to be a loser sealed the deal for me.

I signed up for Tumblr not because I need yet another social media outlet to unintentionally neglect on occasion but because I like the concept of witty and inspiring posts with their multimedia bits appearing in all their shining glory. I prefer punchlines and/or insightful thoughts associated with a picture to be coupled with said picture, as I sometimes find following links to comprehend or fully appreciate a thought, joke, or story to be anticlimactic.

While I appreciate the suspense and development of plot in film and literature, such ideas in social platforms are frequently met with disdain by the apparent dwindling of my attention span and occasional desire for instant gratification. Patience is a virtue - a virtue I desperately lack at times.

I consciously work on this daily, as I make a living by writing things which then must be edited - both take time and sincere focused attention. If the creation of a story, poem, or work of art were instantaneous as I have at times wished they were, much of its joy would be lost. The cultivation of ideas and seeing them flourish before your eyes that make them special. Ideas change, thoughts evolve, and beliefs transform when given the chance to be pondered and pruned. For me, the true beauty lies not solely in the finished product but what you learn while creating it.
